Brief Introduction

Chautara Sangachowkgadhi municipality is located in Sindhupalchowk district under Bagmati province. This municipality is also the headquarters of the district. The total area of ​​this municipality is 165.25 square km. This municipality is made up of 10 former VDCs (Chautara, Pipaldanda, Kubinde, Sanosiruwari, Syaule, Batase, Irkhu, Kadambas, Sangachowk, and Thulosiruwari VDCs).

Currently, there are 14 wards in this municipality. According to the census of 2078, the total population of this municipality is 42,668, and according to the preliminary results of the National Population Census 2078, the total number of households is 11,590 with population density of 258. There were 38,298 eligible voters for the Nepal local elections 2022, according to the Election Commission.

This municipality is inhabited by castes of different religions. The main characteristic of the residents here is the religious and cultural festivals. It is inhabited by followers of various religions such as Hindus, Buddhists and Christians. Which reflects universal culture. The main language here is Nepali, Tamang, Newari and other languages ​​are also spoken.

Geography:

Chautara is located in the northern part of Nepal and covers an area of around 50 square kilometers. The average elevation is 1,600 metres above sea level. Chautara is in the Deciduous Monsoon Forest Zone, one of five vegetation zones defined for Nepal. The dominant tree species in this zone are oak, pine, beech, maple and others, with coniferous trees at higher altitude.

Chautara Sangachowkgadhi municipality is spread in 27 degrees 46' north latitude and 85 degrees 42' east longitude in the global picture. The eastern border of this municipality is connected with Balephi and Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. And the western border is connected with Indrawati Rural Municipality. Similarly, the northern border is connected with Jugal rural municipality and Panchpokhari rural municipality, while the southern border is connected with Kavrepalanchowk district.

Chautara Sangachowkgadhi municipality is about 80/90 km away from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, one can visit this town through the Araniko highway to Bandeu and from there through the Bandeu-Chautara road section. Apart from this, you can enter here through the nearby villages.

The largest ethnic groups are Sherpa, Newar, Brahmin, Chhetri, Gurung, Magars, Tamang, etc. The major languages are Newar, Tamang, Nepali, Nepal Bhasa and English is understood by majority of people. The major religions are Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity.

Chautara Sangachowkgadhi Municipality is also improving the educational quality and with the aim of preparing skilled businessmen and competent citizens who can compete in the global environment through life-use skills and technical education, ensuring equal educational access in public schools of Chautara Sangachowkgadhi Municipality through modern teaching methods with maximum use of the latest information technology and ensuring educational quality and accountability. In order to improve the quality of education by making the good governance aspect effective and increasing the learning achievement of the students through proactive practice, Chautara Sangachowkgadhi Municipality has published the Municipal Education Act 2076 and Education Regulations 2078 in the Municipal.

In addition to this, the municipality has prepared a 10-year (2078-088) city-level education master plan in Chautara Sangachowkgadhi Municipality with the goal of creating a foundation for the development of the municipality by building skilled, competitive and enterprising business human capital with the goal of transforming the youth society with knowledge and skills. The average learning achievement rate of Chautara Sangachowkgadhi Municipality  is relatively 52.7%.

Major Rivers:

Rivers originating from various mountains in the district flow through Chautara Sangachowkgadhi municipality spread in the lower part of Sindhupalchok district. The rivers here are Indravati River, Bhotekoshi River, Kuvinde River, Jhyadi River, Bhaguwa River, Kumbeshwor, Balefi etc.Various hydropower projects are in operation in these rivers.

Like other municipalities of the district, this city is also an area with great potential in terms of tourism. After the formation of the local government, it can be seen that steps have been taken for the development of tourism by preserving the traditions and culture of the village. The local government also allocates a lot of budget for the development of tourism. Local people believe that tourism is the main source of development. The main religious places here are Gaurati Bhimsen Temple (Pipal Danda), Krishna Temple (Chautara), Bhimsen Temple (Chautara), Chandeshwari Temple (Sano Siruvari), Devisthan Temple (Gidane), Bhadaure Ganesha (Sano Siruvari), Rani Pokhari (Irkhu) and others. All the mountains under the Jugal glacier can be seen from most of the places here. The major religious places that attracts domestic as well as international tourists are Gaurati Bhimeshwar Temple (Peepaldanda), Bhadaure Ganesh Temple (Sanosirubari), Harlang Burlang Mahedav Temple (Syaule), Sangachowkgadhi (Sangachok), Ganesh and Bhimsen Temple (Chautara), Krishna Temple (Chautara), Chandeshwari Temple (Sanosirubari), Dakshinkali Temple Peepaldanda), Devithan (Gidane), Narayan Sthan, Raktakalika Mandir (Syaule).

 

Festivals

The festivities such as the Loshar, Dashain, Tihar, Shivratri and many more are observed by all Hindu and Buddhist communities of Chautara. Some of the traditional festivals observed in Chautara apart from those previously mentioned, are Loshar, Bada Dashain, Tihar, Maghe Sankranti, Naga Panchami, Janai Poornima, Teej/Rishi Panchami, Gaurati Jatra, saune sagrati etc.

 

Sports

Football, Cricket and volleyball are the most popular sports among the younger generation in Chautara. There are several grounds in the city among which most popular ground is the Chautara Tudhikhel Ground, a multi-purpose ground used mostly for football matches and cultural events. Several football matches are conducted in this ground every year. Chautara is home to the football clubs such as Chautara Sporting Club (CSC), Star Club, Kshitiz Club, Tol Sudhar etc.

 

Weather

Since Chautara Sangachowkgadhi municipality is in the lower part of Sindhupalchok district, both summer and winter are average here and there is no snow in this area. But because it is in front of the mountain, the cold wind of the mountain blows. Due to the mountain air, some crops are not planted here. Average amount of water falls here even in rainy season. The terrain is not very difficult, there are mountains made of rock, and the rivers are at a short distance, so the possibility of large landslides, floods, and inundation is very low.
